4.24 – a husband & wife & their fire truck-lit reception

This wedding was beautiful and memorable in so many ways. Exciting also to me since it was my first of 2010 and I was ready to back at it. Their ceremony was at the drop-dead gorgeous Metropolitan Memorial United Methodist Church in DC, and reception at Glen Echo Park. I’ve always wanted to shoot at Glen Echo and was so excited to finally get to! It was an amusement park in the early 1900s and now a popular place for art programs and dances.

One such dance was lovely enough to introduce Matt and Christy to each other.

Christy!

I loved this moment.

Thug Life: coming to a Sunday school classroom near you.

Did I mention the sanctuary was unreal?

Matt’s two sons were the ring bearers and they took their job quite seriously.

A perfect dip kiss!

The bridge at Glen Echo where Matt proposed.

And the ballroom where they first met!

SKILLS. They were amazing to watch!

Their reception was inside the bumper car pavilion – love this shot by my assistant Luke.

We’d planned to take a break during the reception and shoot their portraits around the park with the awesome neon lights, but it wasn’t meant to be. We had so much rain that weekend that a tree fell onto a power line, and right after we sat down to dinner the entire park lost power for the night!

Thankfully the firetruck stayed around most of the night, to give gorgeous side lighting and the most entertainment kids could ask for. I loved seeing how much their community of darlings made the reception into such a unique experience…and on a cold rainy March night too! Flashlights and smiles appeared from everywhere and the show went on.

Gorgeous Becka! That church is incredible. What happened that they needed the firetruck lighting? Just lsot power from the storm? What an good story to look back on though, made for some good lighting!!!

Wow, these are incredible! You really did an amazing job working the power loss to your advantage. It enabled you to get some great shots with atypical lighting. LOVE it!

Wow. It’s been a long time since I’ve seen a blog post from one wedding with so many awesome images! Keep it up!
